This past summer, a sweet act of generosity reminded us of the power of giving. Two young friends decided to put their entrepreneurial spirit to work and set up a neighborhood lemonade stand with the goal of learning about earning money and supporting their community.
Setting out for the sidewalk in front of their South End homes with supplies piled in a wagon – cups, table, tablecloth, two large pitchers of fresh squeezed lemonade and ice, they put up their poster and opened for business. The sign read – 25% of the proceeds go to Lend A Hand Society to help people in need.
They enclosed a note to LAH with their donation that read, “Dear LAH, I hope this donation can help your work. My friend and I always do lemonade stands to support businesses and learn how to earn money for ourselves. We hope you like our donation just like the people liked our lemonade.”
We are deeply grateful to these children for their kindness and resourcefulness. Their gift and the thoughtfulness behind it inspire us to continue supporting families across Greater Boston and remind us of the impact every act of giving can make.
