For many families across the Boston area, summer brings as much worry as it does sunshine. When school is out, parents often are left searching for safe, affordable, fun and engaging activities for their children. This is especially challenging for low-income families. That’s why Lend A Hand Society’s campership program plays an important role in supporting youth and easing the burden on families.
This past summer, our campership grants opened doors for children and teens to attend programs that offered more than just a way to fill the days. At camp, kids had the chance to explore nature, discover new skills, and form friendships that will last well beyond the season. Parents were able to continue working with the peace of mind that their children were safe, active, and learning in supportive environments. LAH was proud to fund eight outstanding programs this year: Cambridge Camping Association, Camp Shriver, Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts, Housing Families, Phillips Brooks House, Reach Beyond Domestic Violence, United South End Settlements, and The Farm School.
The impact of camperships stretches far beyond the summer months. Campers return to school more confident, more curious, and better prepared to learn. They gain resilience, teamwork, and leadership skills that will serve them well into the future. Some campers can even become counselors themselves. For families, these opportunities provide stability in the face of rising childcare costs and limited resources.
We are deeply grateful to our donors and supporters whose generosity made this summer’s camperships possible.
